I am a lifelong learner. I believe education is about who we teach, not just about what we teach. I am passionate about culture, relationships, and learning from each other. I have served as an educator in an array of K-12 roles for over fifteen years, including classroom teacher, literacy specialist, mentor, supervisor, and coordinator. Currently, I serve as a central office administrator on Long Island, New York.
I believe in the power of being a connected educator. As educators, we are all in this together! I am a co-founder and co-moderator of the #Read2Lead twitter chat. I am honored to be a part of the EdCamp Long Island planning team. Click here to listen to the State of Ed podcast, Episode 39 – The Dream Team. During this podcast I had the opportunity to discuss EdCampLI 2019.
I grew up in Wantagh, New York. My parents still live in the same house I grew up in. This year, we are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary…and they’re more in love now than ever. My parents have always modeled for me what hard work looks like and how to truly give to others. I have an older sister, who I am lucky enough to call my friend. She has the most amazing two daughters who I can’t get enough of!
I live in Babylon, New York with my husband, Bob. I always said I would never marry someone in the same field….then I fell in love. Bob is a third grade teacher. He’s so passionate about his students and has the gift to truly understand them. My nickname for him is the ‘kid whisperer.’ Being married to a fellow educator pushes me to see things from all sides more clearly. Our debates are real! I’m so grateful for his perspective and how he helps me be the best version of myself.
I have three amazing bonus children. Liam is 19. I’m so proud of his selfless decision to serve in the Navy. He lives on base in Great Lakes, Illinois. Ava is 16. She models exactly what it means to always think about others. Ava has an incredibly thoughtful heart. Riley is 13. Her energy and passion for life radiates from her. She is fearless! Charlie is our family dog. Charlie was rescued last year from an abusive home. He reminds us every day how to love unconditionally.

This presentation is just amazing! Great conversation on bias, putting all stories on bookshelves, and engaging all voices. Using gentle stories to talk about heavy topics. Shout outs to @pernilleripp and @dmammolito. Great work, @MrsLiakonis and @sgteach_sari. #NYSMSA pic.twitter.com/B4Ae0J7FJt
